How to Become A Better Lacrosse Player
by posted 06/15/2010

How to Become a Better Lacrosse Player...

  1. Play more lacrosse, especially against better competition.

  2. Find the weight room. Work on overall strength, but focus on legs, core and building power.

  3. Keep your stick in your hands year round. Play catch with a friend, a neighbor or a wall. Shoot as much as possible – always wear your gloves and helmet when shooting. Take time to develop all three shots – time and room, on the run and tight on the crease. Use both hands.

  4. Get to know your stick. Try stringing your own stick, there are a lot of tutorials online that show you how to do it. This will help you immensely when your stick isn’t throwing well. Keep a spare stick ready in case your other stick has a problem.

  5. Play another sport. If lacrosse is your only sport, tryout for something else. Playing different sports will make you a better athlete and keep you in good shape when the lacrosse season starts.

  6. Run. Sprints and intervals are essential. You don’t have to run a marathon, but focus on running like you would in a lacrosse game. Sprint – short rest – sprint – etc.

  7. Watch a lot of lacrosse. Go online and watch clips or find games to watch.

    -- Coach Travis Sanders
